Meet The Band

  Anastasios (Tasso) Mavroudis

Drums, Percussion, Lead and Background Vocals

One of the founding members of Greek Compania, Tasso was the manager of the group.  Tasso is a very accomplished musician.  His specialty is Drums and Percussion, although he is also learned in Piano.  Tasso started playing drums at a very young age, receiving his 1st "real" drum kit while in the 6th grade and toured the county with the school band.  Tasso's vocal talent enriches the band with his deep style leads and entwining harmonies.  On a professional level, Tasso is a Licensed Civil Engineer and a Project Manager for the City of San Francisco.

  Michael Mavroudis

Bass Guitar, Guitars, Lead and Background Vocals

Michael started music at age 6 learning Piano but found that was not enough.  He took his queue from his older brother Tasso and learned Drums.  Next came Guitar and then Bass Guitar.  Michael constantly yearned to learn new instruments such as the Bouzouki, Tzoura, Cretan and Pontic Lyra, and Laouto.  Michael also composed his own music (both Greek and American).  Michael's passion is Greek Music and to Michael, no other music has the "soul" that Greek music has.  Michael started singing old Greek songs when he was about 6 years old, singing on the docks in Greece.  Michael was also a founding member of Greek Compania and in the professional field he is a Practice Manager in the Information Technologies industry.

   Tony Tsobanakis

  Bouzoukia and Background Vocals

Sadly, Tony passed away on August 24, 2009. Tony started playing the Bouzouki in 1985.  Already an accomplished lead guitarist, Tony taught himself the intricacies of the Bouzouki.  Completely "self taught", Tony was one of the leading Bouzouki artists in Northern California.  Tony brought with him into Greek Compania a new depth in vocals with his harmonies.  Coupled with his lightening fast fingers and a "Penia" that can slam down like a hammer, or be soft and gentle as a feather, he was able to coax the ultimate music from his instruments.  Bouzouki was Tony's main instrument in the band; however he also played the Tzoura, Baglama, and had been known to tickle the keyboards on occasion.  Tony was the "technical" one of the group in that he was a Professional Recording Engineer.

  Michael Garibaldi

           Keyboards, Dumbek, Background Vocals

Michael was the newest member to Greek Compania.  Michael started playing piano at age 9 and was versed in classical music.  Of Greek and Italian decent, Michael is very active in the Greek community, dancing and directing Greek folk dances for the Annunciation Cathedral in San Francisco.  Michael has fully embraced his Greek heritage and it shows with his enthusiasm for playing Greek music.  Already an accomplished keyboard player, Michael was currently increasing his musical knowledge further by learning the Oud, Laouto, Zourna, Guitar and Accordion.
